Working where I do, there is always a remote possibility that some form of celebrity will pass through our doors. The girls get all revved up for the brief period that the big cheese is here, quickly making phone calls to let everyone know, conducting numerous "inconspicuous" trips through the lobby to gaze at the VIP, endlessly commenting on their choice of footwear/jacket/hairstyle etc etc etc. This morning we had Rhea Perlman, Danny DeVito and their son in the office. I will admit, I too was marveling at how damn short he is!

The prison was established in the 1820s and designed by Quakers who believed that solitary confinement and quiet contemplation for all prisoners would lead to reform. Each cell was equipt with a bed, nightstand, toilet, Bible, and a back door to an individual exercise yard. Eventually, it became apparent that lack of human contact was driving the inmates insane, so prison authorities rethought the constant solitary confinement idea. The prison's last inmate was transferred out in the 1970s, and the prison is now open to the public for self-guided tours.
